Gems From The Basement: Songbook

In the midst of my basement treasure hunting, I did come across some things that might be beneficial sometime in the future. Like this children's songbook, for example.

Sure it's old, but it's got some classics in it. Plus the music in case I forget the tune. I decided to keep it. I turned to page 14 and found a song that Mother Goose apparently wrote. I had never heard of the song, but my mother had. She then proceeded to sit down at the piano and sing the song to me. Have a look:

It's about a kitty! Right? A kitty.

Gems From The Basement: Marriage

It is time for Gems From The Basement: The Marriage Edition.

The what?

The marriage edition.

Are you married? Are you unhappy even though you are married? Have you ever thought to yourself, "I really wish there was a way to be happy even though I'm married". Well my friend, look no further. The answer is in my basement:

"But how do I know this is truly the right book for me? How can I trust the source? Just take a look at the back cover:

How could you not trust a couple as glowing and in love as that? Look at them gaze lovingly at each other. Him and his pointy collared shirt, her and her bedazzled blouse. It's love! Even her hair screams, "I'm married! And I'm happy!" It's a safe choice, I promise. It offers very modern and up to date advice about how to keep your spouse AND yourself happy. And look, it even includes cartoons:

"I've read books like this before though! They're all the same! All they do is quote scripture and tell us to be pure."

That's where this book is different. Need to know what each part of the male and female anatomy is called? This book has it. Need to know what each part of the male and female anatomy looks like? This book has diagrams. Need to know the differences between males and females? This book includes helpful charts like this one:

Your days of boring married sex are over. No more asking, "Am I doing this right?" or "What is this little thinger called?" or "Explain that slow cooker/microwave analogy to me again?" It is all laid out very clearly in this book. With scripture!

Finally. An answer to your life's biggest question.

Gems From The Basement

I....wow. I don't even know where to start. It's all so overwhelming.

Mother and I were in clean-and-purge mode today. We concentrated on a bookshelf and a closet. And found many many wonderful things. So many wonderful things in fact these wonderful things will need multiple posts. First up, children's* books. After browsing through some from my childhood, I discovered the following:

-Approximately 78% of our children's books have God, Jesus, or Bible in the title.
-Approximately 14% of our children's books are Berenstain Bears, Mercer Mayer, Curious George or Richard Scarry
-Approximately 4% of our children's books are about baby animals
-Approximately 3% of our children's books are ones we wrote ourselves
-The remaining 1% of our children's books are joke books

And then there was this one:

I also learned that just because you stick God in the title doesn't make it a good read. In fact, it can be downright terrible.

This particular book had an entire page of text dedicated to incubators. Did God make incubators too, or just chickens?

I also found this one, reminding me to be thankful no matter what the circumstance. Or weather.

Last but not least, I stumbled upon some of my mother's handiwork from when she was a little girl.

You have got to be kidding me, blogger. You suck you suck you suck.

I assure you, this is merely the beginning of my basement treasures. Stay tuned for more.

P.S. sorry if the content of this post is crap. It took an exceptionally long time and photos were not co-operating. Computery nerdy wizards and warlocks (what are warlocks?), how can I fix this?

*Dear Firefox, stop underlining children's in red squiggles. That is grammatically correct. Just. Ugh. STOP.
