weekly weirdo awards

Monday, November 3, 2008 - Posted by Amanda Bast
Honorable mention: CHYM FM. They play Amy Winehouse songs, and consequently, my mother sings them.

Third place: Woman at Bioped. I arrived 13 minutes early for my 9:30 appointment today, and she arrived 10 minutes after I did for her 9:00 appointment. I went in first, and got some huge massive stink eye from her because....she was nearly half an hour late and I was on time? Hmm.

Second place: Laundry lady. On Halloween, Kirk, Dave and I knocked on a woman's door and asked her if she had any non-perishable food to donate to the Food Bank. She said yes, and returned with a half-used bottle of Tide.

And the winner is....

The lady down the street who asked my mother if she could smell Sassie's puppy breath. She did smell her and loved it, apparently.

In the MINS lounge, our regular hang out spot, someone mentions something about Seniors Nude Swim in Toronto somewhere, which leads to a discussion of pool sanitation, which spurs us to talk about little kids peeing in pools.

Amy: I wonder if your eyes would burn if you opened them.

Anna: Well, is urine acidic?

Trista: Well, are you swimming in a pool of entirely pee, or a regular swimming pool, and someone has just peed in it?

Amy: Oh...I don't know.

Me: I'll go with the entire pool of pee.

Britt: I think it would burn.

Trista: But what about if it splashes up in your eye?

Me: How...would....what?

Becca: You've had some interesting babysitting experiences, haven't you?

We were unable to come to any sort of a conclusion. What do you think? Burn, or no burn?

Fascinating.

Oh baby, the world is getting weirder by the minute.

I'm getting good marks again. Frankly, it's starting to freak me out. I can't figure out why I'm suddenly good at school. Fascinating.

Professors are people too. I've had a conversation (extremely brief, but still I talked to him) with a prof, and an amusing email exchange with another one. You laugh, but this is a first for me. Fascinating.

The guy who started a conversation using a Kit-Kat is the grand poobah of all things improv at Guelph. Anything improv at the university is because of him. There are weekly improv workshops that are open to anyone. These workshops fit perfectly into my schedule. Fascinating.

This just in: The Haus boys are slacking in the hlog department. Not so fascinating.

So basically, what you're saying is that I'm an obnoxious and materialistic hippy?

"Worthy of love"

"You are a charismatic individual with a dynamic and attractive personality. Probably not known for your caution or patience you are a risk taker who hates to be restricted in any way. Freedom is very important to you. Your thinking and intuition is strong and you have a talent for communication. You enjoy the sensual and material pleasures of life and with the application of care and wisdom you can achieve wonderful worldly success."

things I think about

Friday, May 25, 2007 - Posted by Amanda Bast
I made some jewellery for Lydia (kindergarten teacher/neighbour/family friend) to wear to a wedding tomorrow, so I walked over a block to go drop it off today. Since piercing my tragus, I can't wear headphones, so I left the iPod at home. Which gave me time to think. Good, right? Well, I'm not so sure. I come up with weird things. It was hot, and I thought to myself, "whoo I may need an Italian shower by the time I get home." I then proceeded to think about other things that have a nationality in their name.

-Italian shower
-English muffin
-English breakfast
-Dutch Oven
-Indian sunburn
-Russian roulette
-French manicure
-French kiss
-French fries
-French toast
-Swiss cheese
-Swiss Chalet
-Canadian bacon
-Brazillian haha you can finish that one
-Hawaiian punch (ok, not a country, but still)

WHY? Why are these things named the way they are? And why, oh why do I think about these things in depth? Makes for a good blog, at least.
